Costin had trained as an aircraft engineer, so when he turned his hand to car design, starting with the Lotus Mark 8 in 1954, he applied aircraft techniques and philosophies to his work. The resulting vehicles caused more than a few raised eyebrows, especially those such as the Marcos and the Costin Sports Racer which were built of wood, but they were also capable of going very fast - of flying on four wheels!
